Species That Save Us

the washington post

SERIES BRAND IDENTITY / DIGITAL
DEVELOPMENT / CROSS-PLATFORM DESIGN

A four-part series for The Washington Post exploring the unexpected animals that help humans survive — from spider silk to horseshoe crab blood.

I led design and development across digital and print, building a custom interactive feature with flippable species trading cards, locator maps, and an original illustration system for 50+ species. The series ran in Fall 2025 online, in print and on social.

With Katty Huertas (illustrations) and Dino Grandoni (reporting). This series was supported by the Pulitzer Center.

Tiny Actions for Earth Day

the washington post

Bird Olympics

ILLUSTRATION / DESIGN /
WRITING + REPORTING

If you think that the peregrine falcon is the world's fastest flier, you might want to reconsider. I pitched this original illustrated piece that published in The Washington Post during the 2024 Summer Olympics — exploring which birds would actually take gold in events like speed, distance, swimming, and stealth flight.

I collaborated with Emma Kumer to produce this piece. I led design, development and illustration while we collaborated on research and writing, and Emma animated the birds for our Olympics simulation.

Why you just might fall in love with moths

DIGITAL DESIGN / DEVELOPMENT / ILLUSTRATION

A climate coach column all about the wonders that come with learning to appreciate and love moths. I designed, developed and illustrated this piece to create a smooth 'scroll-snap' user experience on both mobile and desktop and created moth illustrations that populated the page throughout.

The piece transitions to dark mode midway through to differentiate how to go mothing during the day vs. at night.

Your Phone Is Missing Emojis

DIGITAL DESIGN / DEVELOPMENT / DATA VISUALIZATIONS

I designed, developed and created data visualizations for this piece that highlighted the biodiversity inequity in the emoji library. Our team commissioned illustrated emojis by Rafael Varona that proposed new species that would help to even out the scales.

I analyzed the emoji library to highlight the differences between the library and Earth's biodiversity from macro to micro levels, which structured the piece throughout.

I art directed and designed this piece featuring hand-lettering quotes from our featured women that paired with their portrait photography.

Illustrations by Cyla Costa.

Out The Window

BRAND IDENTITY / ILLUSTRATIONS

A scone and coffee concept bringing handmade pastries to DC farmers markets. I created the full brand identity from scratch — including hand-drawn illustrations of the window mark and bird logo — with a warmth-meets-whimsy sensibility designed to feel homemade and memorable at a market stand.
